Saigon Gas Holdings Corporation

Saigon Gas Holdings Corporation is a fast growing LPG distribution company in Vietnam. Saigon Gas supplies Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for industrial use, delivered by LPG tank lorries, and residential and commercial use, delivered in metal cylinders, in Southern Vietnam. They also provide LPG tank installation and maintenance services for industrial users and they manufacture the cylinders they use for the residential market.

Saigon Gas's revenues were $29.2 million in 2007, a 2% increase compared to 2006. The modest growth in revenue was due to a strategic switch from the industrial segment with low profit margin to residential segment with higher margin. By the end of 2007, Saigon Gas had approximately 210 employees.

The Mekong Enterprise Fund made an investment in Saigon Gas August 2005. Saigon Gas’s revenues have grown by 176% over the period that Mekong Enterprise Fund has been an investor.

 

Bulk LPG for industrial use

Saigon Gas provides bulk LPG to industrial customers located mostly in Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces, primarily companies involved in the ceramics industry which use LPG as fuel for their kilns.

Saigon Gas also provides LPG tanks, installation and maintenance services to industrial customers. Their technical team is very strong and has delivered excellent services to their clients.

 

Bottled LPG for residential and commercial use

Saigon Gas is also involved in distribution of bottled LPG business for cooking purposes for residential and commercial use. Saigon Gas has two filling plants where LPG cylinders are filled/refilled, one in Go Dau in Dong Nai Province, and one in District 12 of Ho Chi Minh City.

For the residential business, Saigon Gas’ cylinders are provided to retail shops through a network of distributors and direct delivery by trucks from the Company. The geographic focus of the residential gas business is Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas.

 

Cylinder Manufacturing

Saigon Gas also manufactures their own cylinders for the bottled LPG business. They plan to expand their cylinder production capacity, with the output being used both for internal consumption and external customers. The new cylinder factory will be established in Binh Duong province, expected to commence operation in April 2006.

History

Saigon Gas was founded in 2000 as a limited company. Initially Saigon Gas provided transportation services of bulk LPG to industrial customers by tank lorries.

By the end of 2001, Saigon Gas established their LPG Terminal, with a connected jetty, in Go Dau industrial zone in Dong Nai. The terminal now has a capacity of over 1,000 MT.

Starting from 2004, Saigon Gas expanded to bottled LPG for residential and commercial use. They established a filling plant at the terminal in Go Dau and another filling plant in District 12.

In November 2004, Saigon Gas was converted into joint stock under the name of Saigon Gas Holdings Corporation with additional shareholders who are mostly employees of the company.

From the beginning of 2005, Saigon Gas started operating a cylinder factory, manufacturing LPG cylinders to supply for their residential LPG business as well as supplying to external customers.
