Stories of the theme – Conquering Mt. Kinabalu

“This was not my first time to conquer a mountain since I have been to a lot of climbing trips with the professionals. But trekking Kinabalu with Mekong Capital fellows was the most wonderful trip in my life. I have been extremely inspired by those who were completely unstoppable to not only make their personal breakthrough but also fully take care of each other, empowering them to the team’s success.”

“On the first day, I knew that my health limits would stop me from climbing. However, my teammates were being with me, sharing every tough momentum of mine and kept encouraging me all the time. Being empowered by them, I found myself being self - full confident to complete the last obstacles. From that moment, I found that being unstoppable is simply focus on your target without making any assumption that holds you back.”

“Along the way up to the camp, when I heard
that someone was badly in need of help, my first thought came to chi Thuy since I saw her being
out of breath in the very first km of the journey up to the mountain and later I found that
she made it to the camp herself.
And I saw how exhausted she was the evening we reached the Laban Rata.
Yet the next morning she became the team’s inspiration on our way descended the mountain
when she created the possibility that ‘who dare to pass us’ (Quoted from chi Thuy’s declaration).
To my astonishment and admiration, her steps became so powerful. Many times I received a ‘No, thanks’
from her when trying to persuade her to take a stop. Though we were just very close to be the 1st,
the possibility that chi Thuy created had been brought into existence since actually there were no team
having successfully passed us. After her declaration, it was only us passing team by team at an unchase-able pace.
To me, that’s power.”
